It is where you bid to have your website listed on the 1st Page of Google, (usually high up at the top of the page or on the right hand side of the page) but you don't pay any money until someone actually clicks on your Google Ad which then leads them through to your website/webpage.
The amount of competition there is for your target keywords will have some relation to the amount you need to bid to get your website listing on the 1st Page of Google. To keep the costs down to a minimum your Google Ad needs to be highly relevant to your target keywords and the page that the ad leads to (Landing Page). The landing page also needs to be highly relevant to the keywords you are bidding for.
Setting up a Google AdWords campaign and bidding on as many different but relevant keywords as possible will give you some real insights into the keywords that people are using when looking for the services or products that you offer.
This will then be valuable in your SEO campaign; if you find that a particular keyword is being used more frequently you could tailor your SEO towards that keyword. Once your website is optimised for that new, popular keyword you will find that your Google traffic increases.
Also, in Google AdWords is the Keyword Tool which can be used to tell you approximately how many people are searching for specific terms etc.
Google also now has a new Search-Based Keyword Tool which can be accessed via your Analytics Account. This can help you generate more Keyword ideas and Google looks at your exact website before coming up with suggestions. This tool can really help you come up with alternative non-competitive keywords that are being searched for on a regular basis.
Google AdWords is a great way to advertise your business, especially if you run a local business. There is very little wastage and you can test different ads, budgets and keywords almost instantly. Most business owners are using Google to look for stuff, but most business owners are not using it to advertise their businesses.
Give Google PPC ads a go, it is well worth it and it is the quickest way to get highly targeted potential customers to your website. Want to know more about how you can get your website listed on the 1st page of Google check out my Free Report: SEO Secrets
